Abstract

The influence of crystal surface orientation on the graphitization of diamonds heated in vacuum to temperatures about 1700 Β°C has been studied. It was found that the rate of graphitization is highest in the γ€ˆ110〉 directions and lowest in the γ€ˆ001〉 directions.

## Abatrac& -The influence of ambient gas phase on the graphitixation rate of carbons was investigated. A calcined petroleum coke was heat treated in a high purity graphite tube furnace for various residence times at a maximum temperature ranging from 1900"-2400Β°C under air pressure of 4, 2 and 0.
