β¦ Synopsis
The effect of the nootropic drug pramiracetam (CI-879) on acquisition of a radial arm maze task was examined in the rat. Two doses of pramiracetam (7.5 mg/kg and 15 mg/kg) were administered daily prior to testing for 7 weeks in a 16-arm radial maze in which nine arms were baited with food. This procedure permitted a distinction between working memory (short-term) and reference memory (long-term). Both doses of pramiracetam significantly improved performance in the reference memory component of the task, but did not significantly affect the working memory component. These data indicate that pramiracetam can enhance some aspects of spatial learning and memory in the rat.

Nicotine and other nicotinic agonists have been found to improve performance in a variety of tasks, including the radial-arm maze to improve memory. There has been an active effort to develop novel nicotinic agonists for the treatment of cognitive dysfunction such as is seen in Alzheimer's disease.
The effect of physostigmine (0.2mg/kg), scopolamine (0.1 mg/kg), d,/-amphetamine (1 mg/kg), apomorphine (0.05 mg/kg), and piracetam (100 mg/kg) on working memory was examined in 12 rats that were highly overtrained in the radial maze. A series of four experiments was performed to determine whether acute exposure to a range of 50 Hz magnetic fields had any effect on a learning task in adult male CDl mice. A radial-arm maze placed within the bore of an electromagnet was used to assess spatial discrimination learning for food reward
## Abstract Cognitive function as measured by the HebbβWilliams maze task was examined in Fischer 344 male rats that had been exposed to an enriched environment for periods of variable duration and at different starting ages. In one experiment, rats were exposed to environmental enrichment from wea
