โฆ Synopsis
Natural rubber has been degraded with nitrobenzene and its analogues in the presence of u.v. irradiation. The results support a previously proposed mechanism. Degradation of rubber in the latex form yields sufficient material for the preparation of rubber testpieces. The effect of molecular weight of the degraded rubber on some physical properties has been investigated. The behaviour of tensile strength obeys a relationship first suggested by Flory for butyl rubber.
