โœฆ Synopsis

In order to assess the effects of increased CNS serotonergic function in humans on prolactin (PRL), growth hormone (GH), and mood, IV L-tryptophan (TRP) was administered to ten healthy subjects. The TRP infusion induced robust increases in PRL in all ten subjects. A significant increase in GH concentration was also observed, although the response was more variable. The subjects reported feeling significantly more 'high', 'mellow', and 'drowsy' following the TRP infusion in comparison to placebo. These findings indicate an important role for serotonin in PRL and Gtt secretion, as well as in mood regulation. The IV TRP challenge may be of use in the study of serotonergic function in a variety of neurologic and psychiatric diseases.

## Abstract There is evidence from human and animal studies that substance P (SP) is involved in the etiopathology of depression and anxiety. Furthermore, animal studies have shown effects of SP on memory. In a doubleโ€blind, randomized crossโ€over study, 13 healthy young men received SP (1.5โ€‰pmol/kg

## Abstract The betaโ€2โ€adrenoceptor agonist salbutamol, widely used in the treatment of asthma, is thought to have antidepressant activity and possibly an abuse liability. In order to examine the moodโ€altering potential of this drug, a placebocontrolled, doubleโ€blind crossover trial was conducted i
