โœฆ Synopsis

The rates of absorption of various gases into turbulently stirred water have been measured, both with carefully cleaned surfaces and with surfaces covered with varying amounts of surface-active material. The diffusivities of hydrogen and helium in water have also been measured.

The rate of renewal of the surface and the dependence of the mass-transfer coefficient on the diffusivity have been evaluated from the experiments, and compared with the predictions of various theories.

We report an experimental investigation of the permeability to gas of systems of one or several soap films freely standing in a straight tube, using either reactive gas (NH(3)) or inert gas (argon). The series of soap films appears to be the simplest paradigm of successive lamellae arrangements enco

The influence of monomolecular films and small surface waves on the absorption of carbon dioxide into water has been investigated. Small amplitude progressive two dimensional waves were mechanically generated in a sealed ripple tank. An effective diffusivity was used to correlate the data. For a cle
