The effect of the crucible movement on the growth of large size alkali halide crystals effcct,ed in a ceramic crucible by R-S t,echnique is investigated. From the studies carried out it follows that t h e crwible movement adversely affects the thermal conditions in the furnace resulting in a defective growth. To circumvent tho problems faced suitable modificat,ion of thc cnnvcnt,innal R-S t,echniqne yielding good cryst,als is suggest>ed.
