โฆ Synopsis
The effect of boundary scattering on the diffusion thermopower is treated in the relaxation time approximation using the Chambers path-integral method. It is assumed that both the electron mean free path 1 and the weighted mean Gaussian curvature x of the Fermi surface in the direction of transport are energy dependent. It is shown that by comparing the limiting value of the thermopower obtained in the regime of intense size effect with the bulk value, the magnitude of both O(ln 1)/0,~ and O(In ~)/O~ can be deduced, whether the specimen is a thin film or a thin wire, and that the limiting value of the diffusion thermopower in the regime of intense size effect is the same regardless of the cross-sectional shape of the specimen.
