THE El?FECT 017 ANIONS ON THE GEL CHl~OMATOGRAPHIC BEHAVIOR
OF MAGNESIUM IONS
Magnesium ions were chromatographed on a Sephades G-15 column using sodium chloride, sodium sulfate, sodium nitrate, sodium perchlorate and sodium triphosphate as eluting agents. In order to evaluate the solute-gel interaction and then to estimate the contribution of the anions, the variation in elution curves of magnesium ions with sample concentrations was observed in various eluent systems. It was concluded that the elution volume of the magnesium ions is dependent on the sizes, the complexing ability and the adsorptive property of the anions in the elution system.
