✦ Synopsis
An obvious alternative is that respondents, at least Americans. have a tendency to be "friendly" in their ratings, with the result that most objects are rated in the upper half of the scale, and that the average is somewhere around 7 to Y. If there were such a tendency to be "friendly," absolute ratings for a single group could not be interpreted. An important question is whether and to what extent the ratings are, in addition, influenced by the perceived quality of the object. If so, comparisons between groups could be made, but the statistical techniques should allow for the very skewed shape of the distributions. REFERENCE Goszczynska.
