Abstract
The adsorption and dissociation of NO have been studied on a Pt‐Rh(100)‐alloy single‐crystal surface by thermal‐desorption spectroscopy (TDS). It was found that, at low coverages, NO dissociates completely upon heating to form N~2~ and O~2~. At higher coverages, NO desorption was observed, in addition to desorption of N~2~, and two new N~2~ desorption peaks appeared. Three N~2~ desorption peaks were distinguished. The results are compared with literature data concerning NO adsorption on Rh(100) and Pt(100). It is concluded that, at low coverages, the Rh sites are responsible for NO bond scission activity.
