β¦ Synopsis
The dielectric constant in the Hehnholtz double layer has heen calculated from measurements of interfacial tension and metal-deposition potential on mercury in the presence of ethylmethylketone and n-amyl alcohol. The results show that the adsorption of ethylmethylketone, a small polar molecule, does not a&& the dielectric constant appreciably, but n-amyl alcohol, which is adsorbed with its hydrocarbon tail within the Hehnholtz double layer, lowers the dielectric constant.
