โฆ Synopsis
World Pumps compared the performance efficienctes of the above-grade wet well mounted p u m p station OVWMPS) with submersible p u m p stations. The following article now takes a look at the construction, design, installation, operation and maintenance advantages offered by this technology as compared to the submerstble p u m p station approach.
Smith & Loveless has designed its above-grade WWMPS as an alternative to traditional 4 inch (100 mm),6 inch ( 150mm) and 8 inch (200 mm) submersible wastewater pumps.The most notable difference b e t w e e n the above-grade p u m p station design and a submersible p u m p station is the location of the equipment. Unlike a submersible by John Mowen, Marvin Wood, and Darby Ritter of Smith & Loveless p u m p station, the WWMPS design features p u m p s , motors, valves and controls enclosed together in a single housing, above-grade and separated from the wet well. WWMPSs are designed as c o m p l e t e twopump, three-pump and series p u m p stations with built-in, fail-safe c o m p o n e n t s and flow capacities ranging from 50 gal/min (3 l/s) to 2500 gal/min (160 l/s).

A simple approach is described and used for on-line measurement of the fractional heat-load parameter in an operating diode-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser at 1:06 m wavelength for di erent doping concentrations. The method is based on the fact that if the thermo-optical properties of the sample are known then
