Geographical scope: within the area bounded by 75 to 150ยฐE. longitude and 20 to 50ยฐN. latitude, but extending to adjacent regions when data are relevant to the core area.
Geological time scale: from early to mid-Tertiary up to the emergence of man, but reaching back to earlier periods when considered relevant.
