✦ Synopsis

Vibrational and rotational energy disposal in the CN fragment has been investigated for the dissociations H(D)CN -H(D) f CN(B '1') a: several wavelengths in the vacuum ultraviolet. A simple gobal model has been applied to these results to elucidate features of ?he dissoci-itive potential surfaces. A comparison of these results with earlier theoretical predictions demonstrates that the disposal of vibrational cnegy in these reactions is crucially dependent on I%nck-Condon factors, and is relatively insensitive to final state interactions.
