✦ Synopsis

An invariant formulation of the criterion for the stability of a material, which enables one to investigate the local stability under arbitrary stress conditions, is obtained on the basis of Drucker's postulate [ 11. It is shown that the criterion obtained has an explicit physical meaning at large plastic deformations. A relation is established between the stability parameter and other fundamental parameters of the stressed state.
