โœฆ Synopsis

The overall aim of the doctoral day was to provide an opportunity for researchers to openly discuss with their peers, the problems of conducting research in the sustainability ยฎeld. It represents the culmination of an idea I had back in 1995, which was to urge doctoral researchers to take a more informed and passionate role within the main Greening of Industry Conference. For making it happen, many thanks particularly to the following people: Frank Belz (co-organizer), Prof. Liesegang and his team, and Kurt Fischer. Thanks must also go to a panel of professors who were involved in a question and answer session at the end of the day: Nigel Roome, Richard Welford, Thomas Gladwin and Thomas Dyllick.

The feedback has been very encouraging. The day was recognized as the largest gathering of doctoral researchers in the ยฎeld. Some comments about the day are as follows:

It was a memorable event''; It was very good and enjoyable. Certainly, it needs to be repeated next year''; ``The doctoral workshop satisยฎes the need to discuss (honestly) certain issues and problems that are of particular interest to PhD students F F F the doctoral workshop can also serve as an engine to generate new ideas for the main conference''.

Mark Rossi now gives his overview as a participant of the Doctoral Day.
