✦ Synopsis

The overall aim of the doctoral day was to provide an opportunity for researchers to openly discuss with their peers, the problems of conducting research in the sustainability ®eld. It represents the culmination of an idea I had back in 1995, which was to urge doctoral researchers to take a more informed and passionate role within the main Greening of Industry Conference. For making it happen, many thanks particularly to the following people: Frank Belz (co-organizer), Prof. Liesegang and his team, and Kurt Fischer. Thanks must also go to a panel of professors who were involved in a question and answer session at the end of the day: Nigel Roome, Richard Welford, Thomas Gladwin and Thomas Dyllick.

The feedback has been very encouraging. The day was recognized as the largest gathering of doctoral researchers in the ®eld. Some comments about the day are as follows:
