Abstract

Automatic records of deep ocean waves obtained by a British Ocean Weather Ship have been analysed. The results are compared with those of similar analyses made by other writers. Relations between the parameters describing wave heights are shown to be in close agreement with deductions made by Longuet‐Higgins from a theoretical model, over a range of wave heights which includes all but the most exceptional conditions. Wave‐period parameters are also calculated, but relationships between them are not so clearcut as for wave heights.
