✦ Synopsis

The Langcvin equation is derived by separating the velocity into a position-dependent component plus a fluctuating component with zero mean Thereby the Smoluchowski equation for diffusion with corrections up to O( l/b) is obtained, and an approximate closed equation for the mean value of the velocity is established.

The explicit expressions for the diffusion coefficient and the drift velocity which were formulated in preceding articles are evaluated here by an expansion in inverse powers of the frictional constant
