✦ Synopsis
The different types of isotherm and the phase transitions in the condensed state of evennumbered carbon C~,-C24 fatty acid monolayers, have been examined. It was concluded that any insoluble fatty acid would exhibit eight types of isotherm if it were possible to plot them over a very large range of temperatures. A model involving only the interaction between polar head-groups, which should explain the phase transitions observed at low temperature, is proposed.
