✦ Synopsis

The surprisal analysis of trajectory generated rate constants of three endoergic ieactions is employed to compare the. actual effect of reagent vibrational excitation to that expected on p?rely cnergctic grounds. It is shown that the enhancemcnt of the reaction rate is not a function of the potential energy surface a!one. Rather, reagent vibrational energ has an opposite effect (as compared to the statistial limit) in the endothermic and cxothermic regimes of a given endoergic reaction.
