Abstract

The colorimetric reaction given by aromatic N‐nitrosoamines with α‐naphthylamine hydrochloride has been made the basis of a rapid and convenient method for their estimation in propellant explosives stabilized with sym‐diethyldiphenylurea. The estimation of the nitrosoamine content of such a propellant provides useful information regarding its residual stability and useful life. Working details of the method are given, and applications to the assessment of thermal age and to the determination of compatibility with other materials arc described.
