โœฆ Synopsis

Numerical analysis of the gas-lubricated spiral-groove thrust bearing-compressor. Transactions of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Journal of Lubrication Technology, 89, Series F, No. 4,439 (1967) Reynolds differential equation for isothermal gas film lubrication is written in finite difference form for numerical analysis of the pressure distribution for spiral-groove thrust bearings, and equations are given which allow flow continuity at the interfaces due to the grooves. Calculations are made of gas flow, load capacity, stiffness, power consumption and compressor efficiency: from these equations theoretical performance data is derived. The results of experiments are provided and compared with the theoretical predictions. The degree of agreement between computed data and experimental results is discussed and presented in diagrammatic form. (Tribology 1968, abstract 23) JONES, J.

## Abstract Rolling element bearing components are subjected to high loads. These loads are transmitted from one bearing component to the next through Hertzian contacts. Since the bearing components are in motion as they transmit load, the elliptical contact region is subjected to normal as well as
