โฆ Synopsis
Kour>I:r_A AND M~\T~*sKA~ have discussed the theory and some applications of redox titrations in \vllic.h the titrant has no reducing or oxidizing action. In particular they considered the tit 1 ,I lion of ferric iron withet~~ylcnediaminetetraaceticacid (EDTA). This titration dcpcnds on the change brought about in the rcdox potential of the ferricferrous system when the iron is complexcd with EDTA. Thcsc workers also mentioned that the cuprous-cupric system might also fulfil the ncccssary conditions for such a titration, but apparently they did not pursue the matter any further.
In previous work2 on the interaction of copper with EDTA we have noted the marked stabilizing effect of EDTA on copper (II), thus increasing the reducing power of copper (I), which may bc compared with the bchaviour of iron under similar conditions2. We llavc now examined the copper (II) -copper (I) -EDTA system to find if a complexometric titration can also be effected in this case.
