β¦ Synopsis
The design of an extensive upgrade of BLIP and initial operating experience is described. Detailed consideration of the radiation and thermal environment, along with requirements for faster, safer target handling and better repairability, guided the engineering effort. Major improvements were made to the beam line, structural and shielding assemblies, target drive system, hot cell for target handling, and electronic control system.
