β¦ Synopsis
Fail the tests and become a slave. Display defectiveness and be put to death.
Monroe Academy was built to separate the weak from the strong. Pass the biyearly leveling and be released into society upon graduation. Fail to be promoted and be stripped of rank and forced into servitude.
That was a rule that applied to all but Rayah Bardeau. A student of Monroe Academy, branded as a Null because of her absence of Lighter energy. With her mother standing as a slave in her place, Rayah was given until the age of twenty to make level six, but at nineteen-years-old and with only eight months until her twentieth birthday, she was only a mere level one. The same level sheβs been since she was ten.
With the stress of her upcoming test, the loss of a friend, and the constant wrongdoings towards her, Rayah could only dream of escaping from Lytonia, and escape she did. Only, when she awakened in her dorm, she couldnβt distinguish if she had only dreamt of meeting Soren, a wild and adventurous defect in the Wild Lands, or if she had somehow used her Lighter Form to get there.
But only the elite β the most powerful of Lighters β could tap into their Lighter Forms. Right?
And what was the dark energy she used when she and Soren were attacked by Depleters? Was Rayah really as powerless as she thought? Was she a defect? And if she used dark energy, could she call herself a Lighter at all?
Bestselling author Destiny Hawkins brings you the first installment of a gripping dark fantasy where a powerless girl must survive in a society that doesn't accept the weak...or the defective.
"When I started reading this book I was not prepared for the sheer level of adventure I would experience. This book is along the same lines as the Divergent series, and just as action packed!" β β β β β
"Given how many books I read, it's not often I can say that I haven't seen something before, but this storyline is unlike anything I've read." β β β β β
"This is completely different from what I'm used to reading....but I definitely fell in love with this world that Destiny Hawkins created." β β β β β

Review
- "A complimentary ecopy was given to my blog, by the Author, in exchange for my honest review.* Hawkins, once again, dazzles the readers through a dark, dystopian, and mythological world where you either 'light up' (in my words) or you're nothing and you'll be treated as such. It's heartbreaking but all the while, you have an unfounded sense of hope. It's beautiful and twisted and I think that's the point. I'm in awe at the descriptive details and so intrigued by the mythology that this story is encapsulated in. I love the Author for her imagination. It's truly what keeps me coming back for more. No matter how torturous, strenuous, distressing, punishing, or agonizing it may be, you can't help but flip to the next page to see what comes next." - AMAZON REVIEWER

"When I started reading this book I was not prepared for the sheer level of adventure I would experience. This book is along the same lines as the Divergent series, and just as a tion packed! Rayah is the main character who spent her whole young life being literally tortured and criticized and bullied by everyone around her who used "service to the Lighter Nation" as their justification. Slavery is acceptable, while rank and power are of the utmost importance. Rayah is stronger than she thinks, and as her last chance to prove herself comes swiftly, she finds that she is more powerful than ANYONE gives her credit for. I believe this is my favorite book by this author so far (and I am clearing my schedule now so I can start reading book 2 immediately!!!)"- AMAZON REVIEWER

"I thought this book was fabulous. I loved the concept of it - people had to learn there powers or they were given to those who had them as servants. Most people were only given one chance - Rayah was given a second one as her mom took her place as a slave while she tried to develop powers. With only months to go will she be able to come through? IT was a great dystopian tale. I could not put it down. I can not wait to read more." -Β AMAZON REVIEWER
