โœฆ Synopsis

THE diffusion potential arises from differences in the mobilities of ions at the junction between two non-identical electrolytic conductors. It is thus that contribution, to the emf of a concentration cell with transference, arising from irreversible diffusion processes taking place at the liquid junction of the cell. The general expression for the "true" diffusion potential is

AImtract-Meamrements have been made on cells which contain liquid junctions between two solutions containing different solvents. By employing cells in which the two solutions are saturated with the same salt, it has been possible to directly measure the contribution to the liquid junction potential
