THE diffusion potential arises from differences in the mobilities of ions at the junction between two non-identical electrolytic conductors. It is thus that contribution, to the emf of a concentration cell with transference, arising from irreversible diffusion processes taking place at the liquid junction of the cell. The general expression for the "true" diffusion potential is
