โฆ Synopsis
Milo March is at it againโworking on a new case for Intercontinental Insurance, and itโs a real puzzler this time. Actually, Milo is supposed to be on vacation in Los Angeles, but Martin Raymond, Intercontinentalโs vice-president and the man who manages Miloโs money, tracks him down to send him out on the trail of a series of jewel robberies that have taken place in Beverly Hills. In each case a home has been broken into at the exact time that the owners had taken their gems out of a bank vault, and, since Intercontinental carries the bulk of the policies on the jewels, Milo is being put on the job.
The police have identified one of the criminals: Johnny Renaldi, who has a cross-country record for crime. But just as Milo takes on the case, the police are busy arresting a beautiful brunette, Johnny Renaldiโs girl friend, for his murderโsheโs been found standing over his body with a revolver in her hand. Ever one to come to the rescue of a beautiful lady in distress, Milo questions the girl, who convinces him that she knows nothing about murderโbut she does know something about the robberies.
On the trail of a murderer and the carefully hidden stolen jewels, Milo takes on the Syndicate and some pretty tough customers with his usual aplomb.
This is Milo Marchโs fifteenth turn at bat after such electrifying cases as Uneasy Lies the Dead, Softly in the Night, Jade for a Lady, and The Man Inside. Milo is his usual charming, capable, and carefree self in his new adventure on The Day It Rained Diamonds.
M. E. Chaber was himself an insurance detective at one time in his checkered career, as well as an actor, director, TV writer, dramatist, and the creator of Milo March. A recent Milo March Adventure, Six Who Ran, is now under option to a movie company. Known for his authenticity of setting and his lively characterization, Mr. Chaber is a resident of California and is presently at work on a new Milo March story.
