✦ Synopsis

T h e concept of using autogenous frozen mandibular grafts as a method to reconstruct large mandibular arch defects following ablative surgery for cancer involving the anterior floor of the mouth or mandible has been studied for several years.'-'' The functional disabilities attendant on partial mandibular excision are well documented and include impaired mastication, deglutition, and speech exacerbated by drooling. The cosmetic deformity compounding this functional debilitation is a barrier to social readjustment. Many methods of restoration of the mandible are available, including alloplastic implants, heterografts, or autografts. To date, none of these methods has achieved an acceptable level of success. Use of the patient's own mandible should ideally adapt perfectly to provide a solution that satisfies both functional and cosmetic demands. The purpose of this article is to review the current status of these autogenous mandibular grafts.

## Abstract Reconstruction of bone defects with autogenous, autoclaved bone grafts has already been described but does have one major insuperable problemβ€”the loss of the ostoinductive potential of the graft. In this study, we investigated if autogenous, autoclaved grafts in combination with tissue
