According to DTA measurements, compound ( I ) is stable up to a temperature of 371 "C in the absence of air. The electrical resistance I51 of the crystals increases linearly with temperature ~ as in metallic conductors. The compound is insoluble in dilute acids and alkalis; it decomposes in concentrated nitric and concentrated sulfuric acids. From single-crystal photographs it can be concluded that AuTezI crystallizes rhombically: a = 4.735, b -4.046, c = 12.55 A; Z = 2, dm = 8.00. dx = 7.98 g/cm3. Probable space groups Pmc21, Pma2, Pmma.
