โœฆ Synopsis

In The Cows of Shambat, Liyong sets out to 'create new prisms for viewing human folly'. He creates a very cynical view of the world; cynical not in a hopeless way. The world can be revised but only when people begin to see their folly. Liyongโ€™s style is simple and conversational with long, loosely contrived lines. The reader gets the impression that he is being spoken to by a gentle being who has been there and back. There is no struggling for meaning. He shows us that emotion and outrage are not always the most effective ways of making a mark. His poetry soothes and gradually awakens the reader into greater heights of consciousness. It leaves an indelible mark on the psyche and therein lies the beauty of his gentle approach.
