✦ Synopsis

A decrease in resources and an increase in the severity of student concerns are critical challenges faced by counseling centers. By placing professional counselors in residence halls and directing their efforts toward staff rather than students, a Counselor‐in‐Residence (CIR) program can focus on prevention, identification of at‐risk individuals/groups, and early intervention with the goal of interrupting the escalation of students' emotional difficulties. The authors provide a description of CIR program parameters and operations.
