The I ~P I T O L I S system of fishes has been perfected on a reflex level, each reflex system dealing with some important reaction to their aquatic environment. Tliese reflex systems are concerned with the olfactory, optic, tactile, gustatory and accousticolateral organs which control the fishes major activity, feeding. Feeding is performed in a variety of ways, which in turn finds its expression in the pattern of the brain. By a gross examination of the brain, those senses most utilized by a particular species may be distinguished, arid it is possiblc to infer, to some degree, the feeding habits of the species.
