β¦ Synopsis
Ah&act-The deformability of ductile materials in tension is restricted by the initiation and growth of voids and by their final coalescence into a crack. In this paper, a model is proposed to calculate the stress vs displacement curve of a volume element comaining a growing void, which takes into account the triaxiality of the stress state. The integrated curve, i.e. the work of plastic deformation, constitutes the elementary contribution of that volume element to the crack resistance or fracture toughness of the material. The model is shown to be valid with respect to the geometrical and mechanical aspects.
