โฆ Synopsis
This paper puts forward the views of the Consumers in Europe Group (CEG), an umbrella body for over 30 professional and voluntary organisations with an interest on the effect of the EU on UK consumer affairs.
Increasingly, consumer concerns about the environment must be taken into account when preparing policies on a range of issues from agriculture to labelling to packaging. However, relatively little work has been done to involve consumers in discussions on how to encourage more sustainable lifestyles. For the most part, consumers remain confused about what actions they can take that will reduce their environmental impact. This paper aims to identify the relevant EU policies, highlight the areas where action is required and establish some general principles to inform future discussions on environmental issues. # 1997 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd and ERP Environment.
