The problem of the correct choice of the electrical variable for the description of the adsorption of organic substances on electrodes has been recently discussed very widely 1-4 . No consensus of opinion has been so far achieved.
Behind the choice of the electrical variable there is the assumption of a well defined model for the adsorption layer. I f q M, the charge on the metal, is used as suggested by Parsons s , the potential is a linear function of the coverage:
