✦ Synopsis


The structures of 1-formylhexahelicene (1) and 1-acetylhexahelicene (2)

were determined by X-ray structure analyses. In the crystalline state, both compounds have conformations with the smaller group of the substituents (H i n 1, 0 in 2) directed to the centre of the helicene system. n-SCF-force field calculations predict that these conformations are the most stable ones of the isolated molecule as well.
