✦ Synopsis

Stimulation of either the medial or lateral giant axons in the crayfish (Cherux destructor; Decapoda: Astacura) CNS was found to activate the common inhibitor neuron reliably in each of the pereiopods. This property was used to study the extent of the common inhibitory innervation of the leg muscles, including the muscles of the coxa, basis, and ischium. The common inhibitor was found to innervate all of the muscles of the pereiopod.

## Abstract It is known that leg positioning is important for reducing drag during escape mediated by the medial giant (MG) axon of the crayfish (Cooke and Macmillian, '85). This report examines the question of whether the legs also have a role in escape mediated by the lateral giant (LG) neuron. T

The accumulation of lead in tissues of the freshwater Australian crayfish Cherax destructor and its effect on ion and osmoregulation were investigated. Crayfish were exposed to two different lead concentrations for up to 21 days, either 100 mg β€’ 1 -1 or a sublethal concentration of 0.5 mg β€’ 1 -1 , t
