In an earlier report' on complexes of iron(III) with 2,3\_dihydroxypyridine in various media which were all nominally 1 M in hydrogen ion, phosphoric acid was found to produce anomalous effects. Further investigations of such solutions are reported here. In phosphoric acid media, iron(III) and 2,3\

β¦ Synopsis
chosen, ~-3.5, the reagent is highly selective, reacting with fewer metals than furans-aldoxime0 or thiophene-2-aldoxime 8. Moreover, the water solubility and stability to hydrolysjs of selenophene-2-aldoxime makes it an ideal reagent for routine use. For concentrations of palladium lower than 500 p.p.m., the indirect method is suggested, its main advantage being in its selectivity and the overall time taken for a determination. The usual methods for the determination of palladium(D) in this range require a longer time; calorimetric methods usually involve &elate formation and subsequent solvent extraction before the final measurement, and the precision of all these methods is of the same order.
For concentrations' greater than 5 * Io-4 iti, the direct arnperometric determination is recommended since the inherent error is relatively low. A comparison of the results obtained with furan-z-aldoxime" and selenophene-s-aldoxime indicates that the precision and accuracy with the latter reagent are superior.
