Abstract
The reaction of propadiene with Br~2~, BrCl, and Cl~2~ is studied in various solvents and at different temperatures. It is shown that only partial addition takes place, and further that the initial attack of the Hal^+^ ion takes place at the central C atom. The findings are interpreted as the result of the formation of the intermediary carbonium ion, stabilized by resonance: magnified image.
In the reaction with Cl~2~, propargyl chloride is formed besides 2,3βdichloroβpropene. The way in which the former product is formed, is discussed.
