The adsorption of oxygen on a Pd( 110) surface has been studied using in situ combined techniques of low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) and vibrational electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS). Changes in the adsorbed structure of oxygen with increasing exposure are discussed.

Vibrational high-resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy has been used to identify the shape resonance for CO chemisorbed on Ni( 110) at room temperature. The intensity of the CO stretching vibration is found to be enhanced at an incident electron energy Ei = 18 eV. Angular-dependent measuremen
