## Abstract Polymer electrolyte fuel cell systems are increasingly being used in applications requiring an inverter to convert the direct current (DC) output of the stack to an alternating current (AC). These inverters, and other timeβvarying inputs to the stack such as the anode feed pressure, cau

β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
This paper describes a PEM Fuel Cell Engine (FCE) with 40 kW stacks designed for a car. This was developed by DICP and Sunrise Power and is funded by the Chinese β863β key project. The FCE system construction, stack performance, specifications, and operating characteristics are explained. The efficiency of the FCE is analyzed. The net power output for this FCE is 27 kW and the efficiency is 35β38%. The utilization of air and hydrogen are more than 50% and 97%, respectively.
