✦ Synopsis

Analysis is presented to evaluate the character of waveguide modes in anisotropic media. The model used is based on the assumption that the properties of the medium, which completely "lls the waveguide considered, can be described by a permittivity-and a permeability-tensor and by a vanishing conductivity. Based on this model the "elds of waveguide modes in rectangular transmission lines are calculated. Several solutions of waveguide modes are discussed.

The crosshole seismic method was simulated using a "nite element model with a diagonal mass matrix and a direct integration of the equations of motion in the time domain.
