✦ Synopsis

Dendritic cells are irregularly shaped lymphoid cells that adhere to glass or plastic. They stimulate allogeneic and syngeneic mixed leucocyte reactions and serve as accessory cells in immune responses in vitro. This review summarises the surface properties useful in distinguishing and separating dendritic cells from other lymphoid types and in understanding their lineage and function. Monoclonal antibodies have recently identified the first dendritic-cell-specific surface marker.
