✦ Synopsis

It is widely thought that the early onset of the asymptotic Casimir energy with unit conformal charge signals bosonic string formation of the confining flux connecting a static quark-antiquark pair in &CD. This is observed on a scale where most of the string eigenmodes do not exist and the few stable modes above the ground state are displaced. Hints for the resolution of this paradox are suggested.

## Abstract Input from QCD and string theory is used in order to elucidate basic features of the string theory dual of QCD, It is argued that the relevant string theory is a five‐dimensional version of the type‐0 superstring. The vacuum solution is asymptotically AdS~5~, and the geometry near the b

The Casimir Energy in a Separable Potent

The Casimir energy is the first-order-in-correction to the energy of a time-independent field configuration in a quantum field theory. We study the Casimir energy in a toy model, where the classical field is replaced by a separable potential. In this model the exact answer is trivial to compute, mak
