Phase-pure \(\mathrm{Ba}_{2} \mathrm{VO}_{4}\) has been synthesized by hydrogen reduction of a mixture of \(\mathrm{Ba}_{3} \mathrm{~V}_{2} \mathrm{O}_{8}\) and \(20 \%\) excess \(\mathrm{BaCO}_{3}\) at \(12000-1250^{\circ} \mathrm{C}\), and its crystal structure, designited as \(\beta-\mathrm{Ba}_{
