Twin sisters Lillian and Valeria have never felt complete without one another. Full of life and energy, Lily has an affinity with plants and their healing properties, but has no magical talent. Val has an unmatchable talent and, like her brother Glenndon, an imagination to make her magic work in unusual ways. But magic has physical costs, and Val is frail of body. She needs to find solutions to magical problems without using her magic.
As part of their training, they are assigned to assist new female mentors. Along the way, they meet other magic users also struggling with severe weaknesses.
