I of cancer of the breast depends on early detection. This is true today as for many years; no new techniques have changed this situation. Unfortunately, even the smallest lesion may have metastasized beyond any surgical excision. Palliation by irradiation and chemotherapy, which includes suppression by various drugs and hormones, may prolong life, but this commonly occurring malignancy is cured only by its total excision. While the size of the growth may relate to the extent of metastases, this is not uniformly true.
