Sidford Frederick Hamp (1855-1919) was a British author. Born in Liverpool, in 1872 he travelled to the United States and obtained a place with the Hayden Geological Survey through the influence of his uncle, William Blackmore. Hamp travelled with the 1872 expedition for six months, visiting the area which would become Yellowstone National Park, before returning to England. In 1877, his family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where Hamp later joined them. He married Josephine Cable on November 11, 1899. Hamp wrote many books for the American youth market, short stories, plays, and opera librettos, many set in Colorado. His works include: Below Zero; or, A Trip to the Top of the World (1894), In Geyser Land (a memoir) (c. 1897), The Treasure of Mushroom Rock (1899), Beggars of the Sea (? ), Great Grandmother's Napkin Ring (? ), Honest Baron; or, The Fatal Hairpin (? ), Papooses of Pike's Peak (? ), Dale and Fraser: Sheepmen (1906), The Boys of Crawford's Basin (1907), The Trail of the Badger (1908) and Coco Bolo: King of the Floating Islands (1911).
