A scheme is presented for a rational understanding of the ``bounce method'' which is frequently employed to evaluate the rate of quantum decay in the Euclidean path-integral formalism. The two concepts which play key roles are the quasi-stationary state on one hand and the valley of the Euclidean action on the other.
