โœฆ Synopsis

The collision-induced dissociation (CID) of Cr:, Cr,t , 0,' , and Cr_$ with Xe is studied by using guided ion beam mass spectrometry. Measurement of the threshold for CID of Cr: gives its bond energy as I .30? 0.06 eV. This value is combined with the thresholds for CID of Cr: to form Cr$ t Cr and Cr+ t Cra to yield a neutral Cra bond energy of 1.42 4 0.10 eV and an ionization energy for Crz of 6.89 f 0.08 eV. Studies of the CID of Cr,' and Cr; provide similar but less precise values. The neutral bond energy measured here agrees well with the literature but IE(Cr,) and D(CrT ) differ from previous work. The bonding in Cr: is discussed in an effort to explain the origins of the discrepancies.
